by Allan Alexander and Jessica Walsh
This collection includes traditional music, pieces by Carolan, and also pieces that were written for lute and mandora over 400 years ago. There is a surprising similarity in the sound of the lute and mandora music and the sound of many of the traditional pieces from Ireland and Scotland. It is an amazing feeling to play a dance that is this old...to play the same notes another musician played back in the Renaissance.
The pieces included in this book are a combination of requests from mandolin players and Allan's own personal favorites. There are 46 pieces spanning four centuries. The pieces are presented with music notation and tablature. They also work on the modern cittern. Song titles are: Dermott O'Doud, Wo Betyd Thy Waerie Bodie, Song of the Chanter, James Betagh, Cremonea, Corne Yards, Carolan's Concerto, Princess Royal, Lady Blaney, Carolan's Devotion, I Serve a Worthy Lady, Hewlett, The Gentle Maiden, Fisherman's Lilt, Carolan's Favorite Jig, Carolan's Farewell to Music, Eleanor Plunkett, Planxty Irwin, Isabella Burke, Carolan's Draught, The Chase, Charles O'Connor, Planxty Miss Burke, Loftus Jones, The road to Listonvana-The Morris Dance, A Lilt, Planxty Maggie Browne, Thomas Lexlip the Proud, Dr. John Hart, Planxty O'Rouke 1st.
