By Andrew D. Gordon
“The Blues Scale for Trombone ” is one of a series of instructional books for different instruments written by internationally acclaimed author/musician Andrew D. Gordon. Andrew has written over 70 music educational books such as: “Ultra Smooth Jazz Grooves”, “100 Ultimate Blues Riffs”, “100 Ultimate Jazz Riffs”, “The Bluesier Side Of Jazz”, available worldwide through music stores and internet sites either as music books or digital downloads.
This particular series of books about the Blues scale is, Andrew feels, one of his most important books because of the nature of the blues scale and how it is used to improvise in many styles of contemporary music such as: Pop, Rock, Blues, Jazz, Funk, R&B, Latin, Gospel, New Age, Reggae, Calypso.
Each of the 20 grooves in this book contains over 150 patterns in total, using only notes from the blues scale. Each of the 20 grooves uses a chord progression that is commonly used for that style of music with the patterns starting off fairly simply and becoming more complex as the groove progresses.
The audio files contains all the blues patterns/solos which are notated in the book recorded along with a rhythm section of piano, organ, guitar, bass and drums and in certain grooves percussion followed by just the rhythm section so you can practice along. Also, there are extended 2-3 minute play- a-long mp3 files of all 20 grooves enabling you to practice playing the blues patterns or creating your own for an extended period of time.
